What do you do in your current position?

I am an Account Executive at Meredith Xcelerated Marketing, a content-powered digital agency. The parent company is Meredith Corporation, so we have a deep understanding of how to effectively approach content and we show brands how to think like publishers. I work closely with clients to ensure that we are meeting key goals and objectives and providing the best content for them.

What is your favorite part about your job?

I love being able to look at a brand from all different angles and truly understand its essence. I get to help develop a compelling, effective approach that delivers the right solutions to a client – it’s so interesting! I’m able to apply what I’ve learned from my experiences in both journalism and marketing, which is also something I love that I’m able to do.

What made you choose journalism?

I went down the marketing track professionally but have applied what I learned as a journalism/professional writing major, as well as what I learned in my internships and by contributing to student media, to my current and past positions. I have had very writing-heavy roles in my career, writing proposals, presentations and copy for advertisers.

I chose the journalism/professional writing major because I love to write and be creative. The major gives you a tremendous skill set. Since internships are required, there is also so much opportunity to explore what you really want to do.

Tell us about the importance of getting involved in student media at TCNJ.

Involvement in student organizations was critical to my success at TCNJ. It is so easy to get wrapped up in class, but being involved in student media gives you real-world experience before you even have to enter it! Plus, when you contribute to student media like The Signal or Her Campus TCNJ, you get clips which are so important to have when applying to internships.

I was the Editor-in-Chief of Her Campus TCNJ as a senior as well as the Arts & Entertainment Editor for The Signal in sophomore year. These experiences allowed me to hone my writing and editing skills, get clips, and interview so many interesting people.

For the entirety of my college career, I was a part of Ed@TCNJ. I became Vice President and then President. This club really helps to fine-tune networking skills—which you need in this industry—and taught me how to really go after what you want.
