Nicole Ferrito

What do you do in your current position?

I am currently an assistant account executive at dna Communications, in which I support pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies on corporate communications. I have assisted in developing materials for company announcements such as mergers and acquisitions, as well as clinical trial study results and drug filing announcements. I also work on internal communications for our clients and draft articles on recent news and achievements that happen within their company.

What is your favorite part about your job?

I love working with a team that allows me to be creative and to work on projects that I am interested in. My company is very open to the sharing of ideas no matter what level you are. Additionally, I work on global communications for a few of our clients, which gives me the opportunity to work with and meeting people around the world. I recently assisted in planning an event and materials for a medical congress in September and got to go to London to help out my team.

What made you choose journalism?

I’ve always loved writing and finding stories in everyday life. Working with people, was another aspect of journalism I was passionate about and I really enjoyed interviewing people and weaving their perspective into articles. I found I met a lot of interesting people through interviews, as well.

Tell us about the importance of getting involved in student media at TCNJ.

I wrote my first Signal article my sophomore year and knew right away journalism was something I was incredibly interested in. I originally chose communications studies as my first major, but after taking my first journalism class and starting to write for the school paper, I decided to double major. I also joined HerCampus and became an editor my junior and senior year, which helped me strengthen my own writing. Today, I work in communications, but always draw upon my skills from journalism courses and my experiences working with student media organizations.
