What do you do in your current position?
I’m a Lifestyle Writer for Bustle.com. I write about health, relationship issues, beauty, fashion, and breaking news.
What is your favorite part about your job?
Everything! I get to write about so many different topics. I never write about the same thing twice. And I like to think that my articles are helping people. I remember looking for health information online ten years ago and struggling to find anything — especially as it related to young women. I’m so happy to now be adding to that info so other ladies can learn more about their health, ease their anxiety, gain better confidence, etc.
What made you choose journalism?
I always knew I wanted to be a writer. I started off as an English major, but then realized Journalism was the better route for what I wanted to write about. It also meant getting internships at magazines and websites, as well as networking with people in the profession. As a student, I interned at Health magazine and Blisstree.com. I don’t think I would have ended up at either place had I not switched to Journalism.
Tell us about the importance of getting involved in student media at TCNJ.
Getting involved in student media at TCNJ means gathering up writing clips for future jobs and internships. It also means making connections, which is often a huge benefit during the job hunt. Plus, it’s fun!
