What do you do in your current position?

In my current position as a Program Assistant at I Have a Dream Foundation – Newark, I have provided program development assistance to the Executive director. More recently, starting this month, I have created marketing materials such as save the date cards, pamphlets, and newsletters. I now manage digital marketing initiatives, such as social media, blogging, email marketing and crowdfunding campaigns. I have also begun to train staff on the significance of social media and crowdfunding for nonprofits.

What is your favorite part about your job?

Our office is a collective space shared with two other nonprofits who we often collaborate with. We often brainstorm together and combine resources for future programs.

What made you choose journalism?

I chose Journalism because I’ve always believed in the power of words. People are moved by stories.

Tell us about the importance of getting involved in student media at TCNJ.

Getting involved in student media is crucial to success in the journalism field. For one, you should take all the opportunities you can get to practice your writing. The more you write and have editors provide constructive feedback, the better you will be at your craft. By the time you graduate, you need to have a working portfolio for future employers. You will not be hired without writing samples. Writing for the school paper or magazine is the most accessible way to gain clips.
